The Brief

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council sought to add to their growing portfolio of international events by bidding to host the 2020 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m). The Council engaged this team of consultants to help them in their campaign strategy for this event and to develop and implement a communications campaign supporting the bid.

Our Response

Using the experience garnered over the years, we examined the strengths involved in a bid from Abu Dhabi, gathered these together and highlighted them to the voters at the FINA Bureau. We further consulted with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council on the relevant technical aspects involved in the bidding and hosting of the event, as well assisted the Council in the production of the bid book and the delivery of the final presentation. We also designed and implemented a global communications strategy promoting the strength of Abu Dhabi as a progressive and exciting host of international sporting events. Abu Dhabi successfully won the right to host the Championships, seeing of strong competition from Lima, Peru and interests from Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is already one of the world’s leading sport event hosts. Securing the right to host the 2020 FINA World Championships helped to reaffirm this position. The team of experts were instrumental in this success, bringing a unique understanding of the sport event landscape, a strong influence in the international sport industry and an extensive experience in successful bid campaigns.”
