The Brief
The joint Bid Committee of the Danish Handball Association and the German Handball Federation was created in order to gain the rights to host the IHF Men's World Championship in 2019. The bidding committee engaged our team of advisors to assist them with the development of the strategy for the bid campaign and to develop and implement a communications programme and media campaign on their behalf.
Our Response
While the decision making body for the IHF World Championship was kept to the 16 IHF Council members, it was crucial that the competitive strategy of Denmark-Germany 2019 be identified and then clearly communicated to the Council members and to their influencers. Working together with both handball federations, we developed a strategy that differentiated the Denmark-Germany bid from its competitors and created a series of key messages to emphasise this. We developed a highly targeted communications plan, involving a series of personal letters, brochures and a media campaign to communicate the key messages. Our team also developed the structure of the final presentation and worked together with the bid presentation team onsite in Doha, Qatar to ensure the delivery of an impactful final presentation to the voting members. The rights to host the IHF Men's World Championship were awarded to Denmark and Germany following the first round of voting. The joint bid of Denmark and Germany was competing against bids from Poland, Sweden and a joint bid from Slovakia and Hungary.
