Vishal Gaba, Senior Director, Digital, Genesis BCW, culls out some of the most sought-after and relevant courses in digital marketing for those looking to upskill themselves in these circumstances.
If you didn’t already know, several articles confirm that we are currently in the ‘disillusionment phase’ of the pandemic. Roughly translated, the Zunin & Myers model of Phases of Disaster says that after a disaster hits, the first phase after impact is heroic—also known as the clap-for-healthcare-workers and learn-to-make-sourdough-bread phase. This is followed by the honeymoon phase, which is also the oh-look-at-nature’s-beauty and we’re-going-to-come-out-of-this-better phase. And after that is this current disillusionment phase. We are realising that things are not going to get better anytime soon. We are also realising that this is not a sprint but a marathon, but our energy is sagging. Sadly, we are also seeing retrenchments and salary cuts.
So, what do you do? Do you continue to keep your head down and wait for the storm to pass? Or do you take things into your own hands and steer your career towards areas that are seeing growth? If you are anything like me, you will choose the latter. Like a lot of people, I decided that I will take this time to grow my skills and expand my horizons. Honestly, I had been wanting to enroll for an advanced course in e-commerce for a long time now, but had never got the time in my daily busy schedule.
Once I began looking up on the Internet for a relevant course, I realised that the options available online were numerous and diverse, which is good and bad at the same time. Good, because there are many options to choose from, depending on what works best for you; and bad, because it can end up confusing you. Fortunately, I knew what I was exactly looking for, so it didn’t take me long to zero down on a course on e-commerce that had everything I was looking for.
I also realised, however, that it could be a nightmare for someone who is, say just, starting their career or a student who wants to enroll for better career prospects or someone at a mid-level looking for upskilling themselves motivated me to cull out some of the most sought-after and relevant courses in digital marketing. Hope you find the selection useful.
Google Digital Challenge: This is an introductory course for beginners who are looking at understanding the basics of digital marketing before getting specific with their area of interest. This course has 26 modules, covering topics like SEO, e-mail marketing, display advertising, website, etc., followed by an exam and a certification.
Facebook Blueprint: This is an e-learning platform from Facebook that offers free courses on helping you build end-to-end skills for creating advertising presence across all FB platforms.
InBound Marketing by HubSpot Academy: Inbound marketing helps you draw visitors and potential customers in, rather than outwardly pushing your brand/ offerings focusing on lead generation. The course will equip you with helpful and practical information, starting from how to create a blog post to applying a customer market approach.
Twitter Training Course by HubSpot: This course by HubSpot gives you a detailed view into marketing on Twitter. You can learn how to develop a Twitter growth strategy that will help you understand how to take your business forward. It will also give you an understanding of how to choose the right Twitter content strategy for your brand.
Google Analytics Academy: If you decide to go further down the road with digital marketing, you will end up working on one or the other Google platforms. The good news is that Google has built an amazing program, which helps you learn everything you need to know about operating on these tools. Analytics Academy gives you a deepdive into Google’s measurement tools. Understanding those will help you grow your business through intelligent data collection and analysis.
To my friends from the industry, if you know any other worthy courses, do add to the list for others to benefit from. Let’s keep doing our bit in helping each other be in the growth mindset instead of the disillusionment mindset.
Stay home stay safe and keep learning!
