BRUSSELS, 3 March 2021 – BCW, a leading global communications agency, today announced the appointment of Dennis Abbott, a former Editor and European Commission spokesperson, as a Senior Advisor.

The role marks a return to BCW, where Abbott was Managing Director for Communications and Media Relations from 2015-2019. He was instrumental in award-winning campaigns including the European Union’s support for refugees, and launched BCW’s annual survey on the most influential EU media and World At Her Feet, a report on the future of women’s football.

Prior to joining BCW, Abbott was the European Commission’s Spokesperson for Education and Culture (2010-2014), Spokesperson for Regional Policy (2008-2010), and Senior Press Officer for the European Committee of the Regions (2004-2008). Previously he was Editor of European Voice (forerunner of Politico) from 2001-2004 and has also had senior editorial roles at the Daily Mirror (1995-1998) and The Sun (1989-1995). Abbott began his career in journalism on the North Wales Weekly News and the West Lancashire Evening Gazette. A former reserve officer in the British Army, Abbott served in Iraq in 2003 and is now actively involved with charities supporting serving military, veterans, and their families.

Andrew Cecil, CEO of BCW Brussels, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Dennis back. His experience of the three sides of the ‘communication triangle’, as a journalist, spokesperson, and consultant, gives him a unique 360° take on media and communications. He is a highly respected storyteller, media trainer and counsellor, and his deep knowledge and insights will guide our teams and benefit our clients.”

Abbott added: “I am thrilled to be returning to BCW and its dynamic, creative team. From Blackpool to Basra and Brussels, I have thoroughly enjoyed working in, and with, the media. I look forward to helping BCW’s clients tell great stories, move people and stand out from the crowd.”
